Arts and Humanities

Hello Bloom Families!  I am the Arts and Humanities teacher at Bloom Elementary and have been here for 5 wonderful years.  I teach the Core Content of Dance, Drama, and Music including the cultural significance of these art forms.  I live with my son, Noah, and 2 wiley cats, Doc and Willie, in the Germantown neighborhood.  In my spare time I do yoga, grow raspberries and love all over my son!

I have a BS from Eastern Kentucky University in Soil Science.  I also have a Master of Arts in Education for the University of Louisville as well as a Rank 1.  I have been teaching a total of 22 years and love getting to know each and every child I teach.

The Bloom community has to be the best school community there is and I’m proud to say I am a part of it!

Hello! My name is Debbie Connelly and I am Bloom's Library Media Specialist. I began at Bloom 12 years ago as the Computer Instructor. During my five years in that position, I received my BA in Teaching from Midway College. For the next 6 years, I taught Kindergarten and first grade while working on my MS in Library Science from WKU. This year is my first as a librarian. I absolutely love teaching and am excited about sharing my love of literature with the students of Bloom. On a personal note, I am a single mom of two boys and enjoy every minute I spend with them. Please feel free to contact me at my Bloom email

Please visit the Bloom Library site for information and great links to literature websites!

Melinda Snyder

Art

Melinda Snyder has been Bloom Elementary’s Artist in Residence since 1998 when she started “Art on a Cart”.  She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Sociology and from the University of Louisville with a master’s degree in Studio Arts with an emphasis on fiber arts.  She loves being with the students of Bloom and believes that all children are artists.  Ms. Snyder tries to provide a creative and supportive environment in her visual art classes and wants to introduce the students to as many art forms as possible.  She lives in the Highlands with her husband Larry and until recently their dog Rudy who lived to be almost 16 years old.  Ms. Snyder has two children, Eric who is married to Morgan and lives in Austin Texas and Suzanne who lives in Louisville.  Eric and Suzanne both graduated from Bloom Elementary.  When Ms. Snyder is not teaching at Bloom she loves to work in her studio creating art quilts that are full of color and pattern.

An education is one thing that can be earned, but cannot be taken away by anyone.

Teaching at Bloom is a highlight in my life. I have been teaching about 25 years with time taken off to raise my 4 sons, ages 24, 23, 17 &15. My oldest son just graduated from U-L and the youngest is attending Atherton. All four of my boys attended the best elementary in Jefferson County, Bloom! I’ve been teaching in Jefferson County for many years at various schools, but I also taught and worked as a school psychologist in Ohio for about 6 years. I have a B.S. in Education from Wright State University in Ohio and a M.Ed. in Counseling and Psychology from Wright State University in consortium with the University of Dayton. Additional graduate level courses, I’ve taken have been through U-L and Eastern Kentucky University.

Besides teaching, I am an avid runner, but I also enjoy cycling and walking with friends. Reading, learning new things, being a vegetarian and striving to be physically, mentally and spiritually healthy are all passions of mine.
