Young Elementary is an International Baccalaureate World School. Our magnet is inclusive. Any student can apply to participate in the Primary Years Program and if accepted transportation will be provided by the District. Our school's philosophy fosters the development of the whole child.
Our instructional program, based on current research and best practices, addresses the social, emotional, and cultural aspects of education through the academic core subjects. The IB offers high-quality, challenging programs of international education using interdisciplinary themes and inquiry-based learning. Currently, there are more than 678,000 PYP students at 2,493 schools in 132 countries. Young is your only opportunity to experience this prestigious program in the state of Kentucky.
JCPS District supports an IB educational continuum. Our fifth graders' applications have first right of review to Highland Middle School, a candidate school for the Middle Years Program, while Atherton High School hosts the IB Diploma Programme. This focus on building internationally minded students in preparation for the 21st Century is an innovative commitment to the students of JCPS.
IB Continuum Map in JCPS
There are so many choices in JCPS for parents, but the difference between Young and every other school is best summed up at the end of the day when you are with your child in the evening.
Typically, parents in traditional programs ask "What did you learn today?" or "Were you good today?"
Instead, IB parents should be asking:
"Did you ask a good question today?"
"How did you show IB attitudes?
"What action did you take?"
"What Learner Profile attribute did you exhibit?"
