Thank you to the Community Foundation of Louisville for coming to Young Elementary on April 4th to celebrate their Year One partnership with DonorsChoose.org. We were happy to host the event and show our gratitude for their support in helping fund projects at our school and across JCPS. We look forward to Year Two!

Important Dates:
Wednesday, May 9 - Tuesday, May 15-- State Student Assessments
Here at Young, we instruct students in the core academic areas and give them opportunities to apply their new knowledge and skills. We also help them to become familiar with these new testing practices. There are many changes with the state student assessments this year:
- The window is shorter (5 days) and takes place later in the year than in years previous.
- It is a new test called the K-Prep that is based on the new national common core standards in math and language arts adopted this school year.
- The format will be different. In the past, the tests were multiple choice and Open Response Question. Now there are multiple choice, short answer and extended response.
An article that explains more about the new Kentucky student assesments can be found at: http:www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2012/01/30/20mct_kynewtest.html
