Assessment in the PYP:

At Young, assessment is integral to all teaching and learning. It is central to the PYP goal of thoughtfully and effectively guiding students through the five essential elements of learning: the acquisition of knowlege, the understanding of concepts, the mastering of skills, the development of attitudes and the decision to take action.

Read Young's Assessment Policy to learn more about our philosphy of continuous assessment. Teachers regulary create, implement and analyze varied forms of assessment. Moreover, student are often involved in the development of rubrics, or grading scales, and are asked to reflect on their own learning as well as set academic goals for themselves.

Report cards go home every six weeks. Their academic grades reflect what they know and are able to do. The academic grades are based on student performance and may include the following:

At Young IB World School, students keep a portfolio of their work in the PYP that travels with them from year to year. This document provides evidence of their growth as IB students and may be perused at a Parent-Teacher-Student conference.

Additionallly, as an IB World School, students in their final year of the PYP (Grade 5) participate in the Exhibition, a culminating experience to display their skills and knowledge.
