In music we want all students to participate in performing, creating, and responding. We sing, play classroom instruments and move to and create music. Through these activities, children again acquire musical skills and knowledge that can be developed in no other way. Students learn to read and notate music so they acquire the independence to explore music on their own or with others. We listen to music and try to analyze and evaluate it so they can become good consumers.
We live in a global, diverse society. Singing/performing music from other countries and cultures helps students understand their community and the world beyond. Along with these goals, we want the children to have fun!
