MISSION
The mission of the school Media Center is to create a foundation to lifelong learning and love of literature through a diverse library media information literacy and literature based program.
  • By providing sources in many formats, students are aided in the completion of assignments, exploration of ideas, and selecting a wide variety of recreational reading titles on many levels and topics. In addition, the library media program is designed to provide an environment in which students can learn to locate, process and use information and technology ethically, creatively, and critically, thereby being empowered to become lifelong learners.

  • By promoting literacy and the enjoyment of reading, our goal is for students to become lifelong recreational readers and informed users of information.

  • By designing the Library Media center program to incorporate cooperative planning with teachers and community members, we can help implement the teaching of literacy relating to core content and classroom activities.
TECHNOLOGY POLICY
Technology is an integral part of our Library Media Center. The Library Media Center is the home of a computer mini lab. Students use computers for author studies, on-line WebQuests, research, creating and editing projects, AR tests, and searching the on-line catalog to locate titles.
  • Prior to using library computers, each student will need to return the JCPS Acceptable Use Policy form signed by their guardian and returned to the school office.

  • Computers are available for students, small student groups, and teachers working with small groups.

  • A flexible computer schedule permits individuals to come to the LMC throughout the day to use the library computers with their teacher's permission.
CHECKOUT/CIRCULATION POLICY - Faculty
  • Faculty may sign out up to 50 titles at a time.
  • Titles may be checked out for a period of 1 month. A faculty member may be requested to return an item sooner than 1 month if there is a waiting list for the item.
  • Faculty will receive a weekly reminder of the titles checked out.

CHECKOUT/CIRCULATION POLICY - Students
  • Prior to checking out any books, each student will need to have a permission slip signed by his or her parent or guardian. This agreement states that the student has permission to check out books from the library and that if the book is lost or damaged, the parent agrees to pay the cost of replacement.
  • Students may check out books from 9:15 A.M. until 3:10 PM. A flexible book check out schedule permits individuals to come to the LMC throughout the day with their teacher's permission.
  • 2 titles may be checked out at a time from the library media center. Only one of the two titles may be an AR title.
  • Books are checked out for a period of one week and may be renewed.
  • 4th and 5th grade students may check out magazines, not including the current month. Magazines must be returned no later than Friday.
  • Over due notices are sent out each Monday.
  • There are no charges for overdue books; however, there is a replacement cost charged for books that are damaged or lost in accordance to school policy before more books can be checked out. If the lost item is found prior to the end of the school year, the payment will be reimbursed.
