
School Bus Information
While
Waiting for the Bus
- Arrive at your bus stop five
minutes ahead of the bus. The driver will not wait for
you.
- Keep roadway clear of books,
clothing, and other articles. Students should not play in the path
of traffic and should stand well away from the road when the bus
approaches.
- Do not damage property such as
flowers, shrubbery, windows, fences, and other items while waiting
for a bus.
- Avoid making excessive
noise.
- Fighting at bus stops and on the
way to and from school bus stops is subject to disciplinary action
(to be reported to the school principal).
- Never run alongside the bus when
the bus is moving. Wait until the bus stops and then walk to the
door and board the bus in an orderly manner. DO NOT PUSH AND
SHOVE!
- Students living on the opposite
side of the road from the bus stop must wait on their side of the
road until the bus arrives and the driver gives them the signal to
cross the road.
While
Riding on the Bus
- Please obey the driver's
instructions. The driver of a school bus is in complete charge of
the passengers while they are aboard. If you have a complaint
regarding discipline on the bus, take it to the
principal.
- The driver has the authority to
assign seats.
- Do not sit on books. Hold them in
your lap. Books and other objects are not to be piled in the
aisle. Band instruments or other large objects will be allowed
aboard the bus only if the item can be held in the
studentís lap.
- Passengers should be seated
immediately and remain seated while the bus is in motion. If a
seat is not available, be sure to hold on to the back of the
seat.
- Never extend arms, legs, or head
out of bus.
- Refrain from talking to the driver
except in emergency.
- Pets and animals are not permitted
on the bus at any time.
- No one shall tamper with the
emergency door, fire extinguisher, or other equipment on the
bus.
- Do not mar or deface the bus. Seat
coverings must not be damaged in any manner. Anyone caught
damaging the equipment will be subject to disciplinary action
and/or restitution.
- Passengers must not fight or
scuffle in the bus or create any loud disturbances.
- Passengers must not wave or shout
to pedestrians or occupants of other vehicles and MUST NOT THROW
OBJECTS FROM THE BUS WINDOW.
- Do not throw waste paper on the
floor. Place trash in a receptacle as provided near the entrance
of the bus.
- Smoking, eating, and drinking are
not permitted on school buses.
- The use of profanity and obscene
signs on the school bus are prohibited.
The
Trip
Home
- Passengers are permitted to leave
the bus only at regular, designated stop. Any change must be made
at the parentís request in writing and approved by the
signature of the principal.
- If pupil lives on the opposite side
of a road from the bus stop, the pupil should go in front of the
bus and wait until the bus driver gives the signal to cross the
road. NEVER cross the road in the rear of a stopped
bus.
Responsibility
of Parents
- Parents should report any
misconduct on school buses to the principal.
- Report all traffic hazards and the
bus numbers of all buses observed being operated carelessly to the
transportation department (485-3470).
- Parents should encourage students
to observe all safety and conduct regulations established for the
safe and efficient operation of the school bus.
- Parents should observe extreme
caution when approaching bus stops, moving buses, or stopped
buses.
- Parents should help supervise large
numbers of children at bus stops.
- Parents should see that their
children are at the bus stops five minutes before the bus is
scheduled to arrive.
General
Information
- Students are expected to ride in
their assigned buses.
- Students are not permitted to
switch buses without authorization from a principal or the
transportation department.
- Any student in flagrant violation
of these regulations will be subject to disciplinary action in
accordance with the Uniform Code of Acceptable Behavior and
Discipline
