PROCEDURES FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER
Winter is fast approaching and we want to remind you about procedures that might affect your child in the event of severe weather. During the winter months, ice or snow may affect the transportation of your child to and from St. Matthews Elementary, and it may be necessary for the Jefferson County Public School District to put in effect an alternate schedule and transportation plan. You are encouraged to monitor local media when severe weather is forecast or is apparent in the area. It is also extremely important that you have alternate child care arrangements, especially for young children, in the event severe weather strikes before or during the school day.

The following are possible schedule changes that may be announced by the Jefferson County School District:

Closing of Schools -- If classes are canceled for the entire day, an announcement will be made by the news media. The decision will be made as early as possible, based upon weather conditions.

Schools Open on a Snow and Ice Schedule Announcements will be broadcast on radio and television should the district use the alternate snow and ice schedule. Alternate snow and ice schedules are utilized due to concerns of buses traveling on particular roadways during inclement weather. Some bus routes will have an alternate snow and ice schedule with different bus stops and/or times for some students. Should your child have an alternate snow and ice schedule, he/she will be given this information by the bus driver this month.

Early Dismissal When severe weather conditions exist, it may be necessary to call for an early dismissal of schools. Media announcements will specify the early dismissal time. When schools are dismissed early or closed for the entire day, all scheduled activities, including athletic events, will be canceled in accordance with rules and regulations of the JCPS Office of Academics/ Activities/ Athletics; however, some tournaments may be held as scheduled. Again it is critical that you make alternate child care arrangements, especially for young children, in the event of an early dismissal. Please make our office aware of those arrangements.
