Shelby Elementary's
Uniform Dress Code

Shelby Elementary Students wear uniforms every day of the year. We think it helps everyone to get down to business and stay focused on their work.

Students may wear:

  • Polo Shirts in white, powder blue, navy or burgundy
  • or Collared Dress Shirts or Blouses- white.
  • or Turtleneck Shirt - white.
  • Dress Pants - - pleated or plain front in khaki or navy
  • or Walking Shorts- pleated or plain front in khaki or navy. Shorts should be knee length.
  • or Jumpers, Skirts or Skorts- for girls, in khaki or navy.
  • School Sweatshirts- in burgundy or navy.
  • or Sweater, Cardigan or V-neck, navy or white
  • And don't forget:
  • Solid, Plain Socks, navy or white (or navy or white tights)
  • Belts - for pants or shorts with belt loops
  1. The following are NOT allowed:
    • Hats or Caps
    • Earrings larger than a quarter
    • Sunglasses or gloves
    • Oversized and/or sagging pants or shorts
    • Anything considered inappropriate by the local school administration.
  2. Students need to be neat and clean at all times.
  3. Belts must be worn with pants that have belt loops.
  4. Shirts and blouses are to be fully tucked in to waistbands. Pants, shorts and skirts are to be worn at waist level.
  5. Shoes must be worn at all times. No flip-flops, shower shoes, house shoes, clogs or sandals of any kind are allowed. All shoes must have full toes and heels. Shoes must not be unsafe or disturb others. Shoes with laces must be properly laced and tied. (Parents, work with your little children to teach them to tie their shoes, if needed!)
  6. Socks or stockings must be worn by all students.
  7. Outer garments (coats, jackets, etc.) and book bags should be left in student closet areas, if possible.
  8. Appropriate undergarments must be worn at all times.
  9. Hair must be neat and clean at all times.
  10. Skirt length is appropriate if it meets these guidelines: Have the student stand with both feet flat on the floor. Lift one foot and bend knee at a 90-degree angle, with the other leg straight. If the back of the skirt touches the calf of the bent leg, the skirt is long enough. If the skirt does not touch the calf, the skirt is in violation of the dress code.
  11. The Principal or Counselor are the final authorities in matters pertaining to appearance. Students enrolling after the beginning of school will be given a week to obtain uniforms.

Let's all work together to keep kids in uniform and out of the office. Questions? Call the school office (485-8327) or the Family Resource Center (485-8191).
