Dear Parents/Guardians;

The teaching staff at Layne Elementary and I are very excited about a new program that will begin in August of 2009 for our third, fourth and fifth graders.  We will be offering an academic Honors Program for our students who are working at the top of their grade level, or above, in reading and math.

Your student, _______________________________, has been identified as one of the students who meet the criteria.  Please join us for an informational meeting on Tuesday, May 26, 2009.  The meeting will take place in the Layne Library at 6:30 p.m.

I will share with you information related to this program, the criteria for student selection and the contract that is required for participation.  This contract will require a commitment from the student, their parents or guardians, and the teacher.   The teachers who will be teaching in this program will also be there to answer any questions you may have.  This is a very exciting opportunity that will not only challenge your child but will also provide the support and encouragement for them to excel.

 In order to participate in this program you and your child must attend this meeting.  I hope you will join us to begin an exciting chapter in your child’s learning.  Not many students are given the opportunity to grow and be challenged in this manner until they reach Middle School.

Please join us to begin this new journey.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call me at 485-8290.

Sincerely,

Brenda A. Michaud, principal
