What is the purpose of the Jacob Family Resource Center?
As a result of the Kentucky Education Reform Act, the state legislature created school support service and referral centers that help families break down barriers to educational achievement and that promote lifelong learning. The Jacob Family Resource Center (FRC) was opened in the fall of 1991, and it has continuously served children and families in the Jacob Elementary School community.
Who manages the Jacob FRC?
A coordinator oversees all the activities, programs, and services provided by the center. A home-school coordinator links families to the school and to community agencies and assists the coordinator. A secretary completes the FRC team.
Where is the Jacob FRC located?
The Jacob FRC welcomes students in Room 102A of Jacob Elementary School. The school is located at 3701 East Wheatmore Drive in the Taylor Boulevard-Berry Boulevard area of South Louisville.
How can I contact the Jacob FRC?
A personal visit is always welcome, or individuals may reach the center staff at 485-8843. Center hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. An answering machine is available for after-hours calls.
Center programs and services are provided in the following areas:
- Referrals to health services
- Families in Training (serving parents who have children from birth through age 3)
- Parent and child education
- Before- and after-school childcare for students ages 5 through 12
- Child-care referrals for children 2 and 3 years of age
- Support and training for child-care providers
- Encouragement for on-time, daily school attendance
- Enrichment programs and activities to promote student achievement and school support
- Participation in Safe and Drug-Free Schools programs and activities
- Referrals to social-service agencies
