Extended School Services (ESS)

Dixie Elementary offers ESS to more than 110 students during the school year. ESS is additional direct instruction beyond the minimum school term for students in need of extended services (KRS 158.070 (8)). The emphasis of ESS is:

  1. To enhance the present level of performance of students who are having difficulty in one or more content areas.
  2. To provide additional instruction to students who have been retained or are at risk of being retained.
  3. To close the achievement gap of low-performing students.

Students do the following:

  • Work in small groups with the teacher
  • Study content that is relevant to the goals set for the student
  • Use textbooks and computers as part of many resources, in addition to using manipulatives in relevant ways
  • Work in groups with the same learning goals to solve problems and gain understanding
