Native American Heritage Month: "The Red Earth Exhibition"

Portraits From Red Earth is an exhibition of photographic images taken during the June 8-10, 1990 Red Earth Festival in Oklahoma City. Red Earth is America’s Greatest Native American Cultural Festival held in the Myriad Convention Center in Downtown Oklahoma City. Aukram Burton, JCPS Diversity/Multicultural Education Specialist, photographed the images represented in "Portraits From Red Earth" during the festival.

Aukram Burton was an invited guest, and an observer of Art and Dance Competitions that demonstrated ancient visual, dance, and musical rituals that have survived every possible adversity. While in the arena, Burton was in awe of the beautiful regalia representing the tribal heritage and customs of the dancers and other participants in the area.
