Program Implementation
Students with disabilities are served in a variety of settings, dependent upon their individual needs and abilities. Careful planning and monitoring of student progress occurs among all Individual Education Program (IEP) implementers.
At least once every 12 months, the child’s Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) will meet to review the child’s progress and to develop a new IEP. This ARC meeting is often referred to as an annual review meeting.
Collaborative team meetings are scheduled as needed throughout the year to discuss student progress and to determine any subtle changes that may be necessary to ensure student success.
While Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) takes pride in having personnel that have extensive experience working with students with disabilities, the JCPS District recognizes that ongoing professional development is necessary to ensure that educators stay abreast of instructional strategies that have been documented to be effective when teaching students with disabilities (i.e., specific learning disabilities, autism). Training is offered to both certified and non-certified staff. Many sessions are offered Districtwide; however, sessions can be individualized to meet the identified needs of specific schools.
