Playground Safety
Springtime brings JCPS playgrounds back to life. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that playground-related injuries exceed $11 billion annually. Let's do our part to help reduce these injuries. Maintain proper mulch depths; conduct daily visual inspections; pick up trash; and call in work orders on damaged, broken, or dangerous equipment.
Reminder
Parking lot gates must be locked when they are in the open position.
Reminder
- Practice proper lifting techniques.
- Use ladders according to manufacturers' recommendations.
- Be safe out there!
First Aid and CPR
Training is available through the Safety and Environmental Services Department. Check the JCPS Web site on the Professional Development Offerings page for training dates and times. Call the Professional Development Office at 485-3415 to register for training.
Reminder
Monthly fire extinguisher inspections must be completed and documented by Housekeeping staff or a designee.
Open Flame Reminder
Open flames (lit candles) are prohibited in educational facilities.
Facility Compliance Manual
Safety and Environmental Services has developed and distributed the Facility Compliance Manual. This manual is a reference guide for school and building principals on the various regulatory requirements for a JCPS facility. Jefferson County Board of Education policies: the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); the National Fire Prevention Code; the Kentucky Standards of Safety; the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); and other federal, state, and local agencies have established these requirements.
Training and technical assistance are available by calling Safety, Environmental, and Housekeeping Services at 485-3298.
