Housekeeping Awards Program

An advisory committee comprised of principals; plant operators; and Safety, Environmental, and Housekeeping Services staff members meet annually to review and update the JCPS Housekeeping Evaluation Program. (Any administrator or plant operator interested in serving on this committee is welcome and should contact the Housekeeping Services Office at 485-6100.)

Annual Good Housekeeping Awards are based on a simple average of three evaluation scores given to each school each quarter except the summer quarter.

To maintain objectivity, no one in the Housekeeping Services Unit is involved in determining the score or selecting which school is to be evaluated on any given day. Furthermore, no one department may alter a score.

A different cleaning professional from outside the school system is hired as an evaluator each quarter to ensure impartiality. The evaluator establishes his or her duty schedule within this designated evaluation cycle. It is expected that each evaluator will have different standards and will score differently; however, this variance in scoring is acceptable as long as each evaluator remains consistent in scoring throughout the system utilizing the same scoring matrix for every location. Each school is competing with other schools and not with its own previous scores.

Plaques are presented to the highest-scoring facilities in each category as follows:

  • Elementary--1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th highest scoring
  • Middle--1st, 2nd, and 3rd highest scoring
  • High--1st, 2nd, and 3rd highest scoring
  • Special Schools--1st and 2nd highest scoring
  • District Office Facilities--1st and 2nd highest scoring
  • Bus Compounds--1st and 2nd highest scoring
