Certified Teachers
Lifelong Learners…
Growth Opportunities…
Leading Through Learning…
Learning opportunities provided through effective Professional Development are essential to develop and broaden the knowledge, processes, and skills of teachers. The No Child Left Behind mandate and the Kentucky Educational Reform Act (KERA) set forth expectations that quality PD, identified by learner needs, must be available for certified teachers to grow professionally.
The Professional Development Department supports teachers in their quest for lifelong learning and growth. The office assists by:
- collaborating with others to provide ongoing, data-driven, job- embedded, collegial, and results-oriented PD for teachers,
- working with teachers and schools to understand and implement federal, state and locally mandated PD requirements,
- coordinating the district’s PD proposal and approval process for teachers and schools,
- maintaining a database of PD hours earned by JCPS teachers, and
- recording and reporting district compliance information to the Kentucky Department of Education at the conclusion of each school year.
