Health Training

Health Services Trainings are offered in order to meet requirements and guidelines (KRS 156.502) regarding trainings for various health services for JCPS students. Appropriate school personnel are chosen annually (per school year), by the school administrator, to be trained in the Health Services Medication Training for unlicensed school personnel. Also, in order to ensure there is always a trained individual available to administer any health services and to cover field trips, absences or vacation, there should be a minimum of five trained persons at each school.

According to 704 KAR 4:020, Section 4(3)(g), beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, all unlicensed school personnel who perform medication administration in school must have proof of completion for the standardized training course developed by the Kentucky Department of Education and Kentucky Board of Nursing. These trainings must be completed before administering health services to a student.  By law, these trainings must be completed and all designated staff must be trained PRIOR to the first day of school or PRIOR to performing any health services.

The list below includes the health services trainings. We have scheduled various Health Services Trainings to help you meet the regulation. The list includes the health services trainings and these trainings are listed on PD central. If you have questions, please feel free to call for assistance. 

  • Health Services Medication Training for unlicensed school personnel which includes: medication administration (on a daily basis and on field trips), gastrostomy tube (medications and feeding) and emergency medications including asthma (inhaler/nebulizer), EpiPen/Twinject, blood sugar monitoring, Glucagon, seizures(Diastat and Vagal Nerve Stimulators)
  • Tracheostomy Suctioning (are scheduled upon request for new personnel being trained for the first time (in-person) and online for those who have been trained previously)

How do I sign up for Health Services Trainings

Anyone working for JCPS can sign up for Health Services Trainings. Health Services offers trainings throughout the school year. For a list of trainings that are available, please check PD Central and search for health. Trainings are only valid for one school year.
