Aspiring Leader Programs

 

JCPS Leader Development Programs

Introduction to School Leadership (ISL) is designed for educators interested in becoming a principal, assistant principal or counselor. The class meets monthly in the evening with online homework, reading assignments and highly interactive learning activities. UofL, IUS, Spalding or Bellarmine graduate credit are optional.


University School Leader Certification Programs

Bellarmine University Principal Cohort

Bellarmine offers a unique "second" masters program in school administration (principal) using a cohort model co-taught by JCPS administrators. The program begins in June and requires a fourteen month commitment. JCPS may provide some tuition reimbursement to employees selected for this program.

Indiana University Southeast Cohort  

IUS offers a unique principal preparation program co-taught by JCPS administrators. Using a cohort model with a strong clinical and field work base, the program begins with a joint summer session in June. JCPS may provide some tuition reimbursement to employees selected for this program.

Spalding University Cohort

Spalding offers a unique principal preparation program co-taught by JCPS administrators. Using a cohort model with a strong clinical and field work base, the program begins with a joint summer session in June. JCPS may provide some tuition reimbursement to employees selected for this program.

University of Louisville IDEAS

IDEAS is a unique cohort for JCPS employees who have been accepted into the UofL principal preparation program. The cohort, co-taught by JCPS administrators, begins in July with five days of leadership simulations. IDEAS meets weekly in the evenings with strong field and clinical experiences, online case studies and reading assignments. JCPS may provide some tuition reimbursement to employees selected for this program.

Counselor Certification 

Representatives will be present to discuss Master Counselor certification programs at UofL and IUS.


JCPS Advanced Leader Development Programs

Counselors for Tomorrow (CFT) is designed for educators who are within one year of qualifying for a counselor statement of eligibility. The class meets monthly in the evening with online homework and reading assignments.

Preparing for Principal Leadership (PPL) is a year-long leadership development program designed for teacher leaders who are committed to becoming principals for the Jefferson County Public Schools. PPL meets monthly, using the JCPS Core Beliefs, vision for the future, and Theory of Action as the foundation for helping participants design and implement an individualized leadership growth plan.

Principals for Tomorrow (PFT) is designed for educators who are within one year of qualifying for a principal Statement of Eligibility. This year-long class meets in rotation, Monday evenings each week for a month followed by a month off with online homework and reading assignments. JCPS may provide some tuition reimbursement to employees selected for this program. UofL graduate credit is optional.

Internship is designed for educators who hold a Kentucky Principal Statement of Eligibility and wish to participate in an intensive year long school based preparation program to become a principal. This year long initiative starts in August and meets every school day for the 2010-2011 school year. Interns are assigned to base schools and participate in medical style rotations to become effective principals.


School Administration Managers (SAMs)

JCPS hosts the National SAM Project for the Wallace Foundation.  SAMs is a professional development process for principals and school communities designed to increase focus and time spent on instructional leadership.  The project began as the Alternative School Administration Study, ASAS, in 2002.  There are currently more that 300 participating schools in nine states. In order to be eligible for any of the Aspiring Leader Programs, a candidate must have a minimum of 3 years teaching experience.
