Diane L. Porter was appointed by Kentucky Education Commissioner Terry Holliday to the Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBE) on June 2010. She was elected to serve District 1 in November 2010, and she serves as the board’s chair. Diane is a graduate is of the Louisville Public School System and the University of Louisville. Her professional public education experience is vast, having served for nearly 40 years as a teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator. She retired in October 2009 as director of Career/Workforce Education and the district’s School-to-Career program. Diane has also been a JCPS parent as her daughter is a Jefferson County Public Schools graduate.

David A. Jones, Jr. is founder and chairman of Chrysalis Ventures.  He has worked as an advisor and director with a wide range of organizations, serving on more than thirty boards, from large and small companies to non-profits and civic groups, from his church to educational institutions. For more than a decade, David has worked with JCPS through civic and business groups (including Every1Reads, Greater Louisville Project, Business Leaders for Education and 55,000 Degrees) to improve student achievement in our community. David began his career in the classroom as a teacher and he continues to teach today at U of L. He is also a parent who had two children in JCPS (one was a valedictorian at Manual High School), and he attended the old Louisville Public School system. As a business person, David has worked with companies that have hired, and now employ, thousands of graduates of JCPS, so he knows how important it is for our city’s future for the school system to succeed.

Prior to being elected to JCBE, Debbie Wesslund served as president of the Norton Elementary PTA and as an elected parent representative on Noe Middle's School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council. She served as board chairperson during 2009 and 2010. She has a background in public policy advocacy having served on the staffs of two U.S. Representatives. Since moving to Louisville, she has worked for KentuckianaWorks, the city's workforce development agency, and currently offers consulting services to organizations in public policy and communications. She serves as president of her neighborhood association and as a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She is married to Paul Wesslund, and has a daughter in the public school system. Debbie Wesslund holds a B.A. degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma.

Chuck Haddaway was elected to the Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBE) in November 2012 and began his term in January 2013.  Prior to being elected to the JCBE, Chuck Haddaway served as a member of the Okolona Elementary School Family Resource Center Council and the School Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council of Carter Traditional Elementary School.

Chuck is the Executive Director / CEO of the Kentucky Recreation and Park Society, a non-profit statewide association.  He also serves on the boards of the Kentucky League of Cities, Kentucky Sports Authority and the KY Land, Water, Conservation Fund Advisory.

Chuck attended Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) at Noe Middle School, Pleasure Ridge Park High School, Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS), and duPont Manual High School.  He also majored in Political Science, with a Public Policy Analysis concentration at the University of Louisville. Chuck and his wife, Melissa, have two children who attend a JCPS elementary school.

Linda Duncan has been a member of the Jefferson County Board of Education since 2006, having served as Vice-Chair in 2010.  A 1970 graduate of the University of Kentucky where she also earned her Masters Degree and a 1989 graduate of the University of Louisville’s Rank I program in Administration and Supervision, Linda taught English and social studies in grades 7-10 at Fairdale High School; then she taught English grades 9-12 for ten years at Southern High School before returning to Fairdale as assistant principal for the last ten years of her career with Jefferson County Public Schools.  During her service as assistant principal, she chaired the School Climate Committee, the School Attendance Committee, and the Dress Code Committee while serving on the Budget Committee and the Curriculum Committee.

Linda and her husband, Dr. John Duncan, who serves as a financial advisor with Morgan-Stanley-Smith-Barney, have a son, Seth, who graduated from duPont Manual High School and a daughter, Rachel, who graduated from Fairdale High School, and they have three grandchildren, two of whom attend Medora Elementary, where Linda also volunteers to tutor Every 1 Reads kindergarten students and has done so since 2007.

In addition to her district school board position, Linda is serving her second term as an at-large Director on the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA), having chaired the External/Member Relations Committee and having served on the Governance Committee, the Performance Oversight/Monitoring Committee, the Program and Planning Committee, the Legislative Agenda Committee, and presently represents KSBA on the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) Principal Evaluation/Principal Effectiveness Task Force.  Last summer, she was selected by the Governor to serve a two-year term on the State Curriculum, Assessment, and Accountability Council.  She is a member of the National School Board Association (NSBA) Federal Relations Network (FRN) Team, having lobbied Congress on three different trips to Washington with the FRN, and recently served as an at-large delegate to NSBA’s Delegate Assembly.

Other duties in her life include serving as secretary of her Yorktown North Neighborhood Association and Treasurer of Epiphany United Methodist Church.  She is a member of the Fairdale Area Business and Professional Association, the Iroquois Area Business Association, and the Alumni Association of Fairdale High School.  She also serves on several school advisory councils and on the Community Council of South Jefferson Neighborhood Place.  In addition to those duties, Linda is in her sixth year of service as an Every 1 Reads volunteer at Medora Elementary, where two of her grandchildren attend school.

Carol Ann Haddad's advocacy for children began in 1967 when she joined the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Audubon Elementary. She was an active member for seven years and served as PTA president for two years. She was also a PTA member at Camp Taylor Elementary, Noe Middle, and the former Durrett and duPont Manual High Schools. Her interest in students’ education led her to seek a JCBE seat in 1976 and served until 1980. A decade later, Haddad was again elected to the board. She has served as chairperson in 1993, 1994, and 1999 through 2002. Carol and her husband, attorney Bob Haddad, have two children and four grandchildren.

Chris Brady was elected to the Jefferson County Board of Education in November 2012 and began his term in January 2013.  He is currently a medical technology trainer for Norton Healthcare specializing in the EPIC electronic medical record system.  As a training professional, he has worked with educational institutions, non-profits, and corporations.  His in-classroom education experience includes teaching at Indiana University Southeast as an adjunct instructor, numerous JCPS schools as a substitute teacher, and several businesses throughout Kentucky as a corporate trainer. 

Chris holds a B.A. in Communications from Western Kentucky University.  He and his wife are proud parents of two boys who attend a JCPS school.  His record of public service includes serving on the board of his neighborhood association, organizing local Brightside cleanups, and volunteering for the Floyd’s Fork Creek Sweep.  Additionally, he has been a member of or volunteered for several organizations including his sons’ PTA, Focus Louisville, Habitat for Humanity, The American Lung Association, The Neighborhood Institute, and the Young Professionals Association of Louisville.
